Dorothy Ashby - Windmills of Your Mind
There have been so many versions of this wonderful song with each bringing it’s own verve and design, but this one…
This one is sublime.

Chic - I Want Your Love
Chic was an African American disco and R&B band that was organized during 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. It is known best for its commercially successful disco songs, including “Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)” (1977), “Everybody Dance” (1977), “Le Freak” (1978), “I Want Your Love” (1978), “Good Times” (1979), and “My Forbidden Lover” (1979). The group regarded themselves as a rock band for the disco movement “that made good on hippie peace, love and freedom”.
Slick production, attitude, vision, heavenly strings and a relentless bass that holds on like a true love.

The Temptations - Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone
Slick moves, dapper suits, golden voices and a bass line filled with social menace and commentary.
That’ll be the Temptations.
Supreme.

Issac Hayes - Fever
Nobody did it like Mr Hayes. This is funk bolognese scooped in a disco tortilla.
Go on, boogie like the neighbours are watching and you don’t give a rat’s ass!

The Futures - Ain’t Got Time Fa Nothing
One of the finest stepper tracks I’ve had the privilege to listen to over the years. Still classy, still amazing and still on point!
Another of a seemingly endless string of quality soul groups to come out of Philadelphia in the late 60s and early 70s, the Futures never rose to the upper echelon of Soul Music artists, but nonetheless created a number of fine releases.
Consisting of Kenny Crew, James King, John King, Harry McGilberry and Frank Washington, the Futures formed in Philly in the late 60s and hooked up with hitmakers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, signing with Gamble Records in 1971. They first hit the charts in 1973 with “Love Is Here,” a wonderful soul ballad that made it halfway up the charts (the song was later remade in fine fashion by the Dramatics). However, trouble at Gamble Records led the Futures to an ill-fated stay at Buddah before returning to Gamble’s Philadelphia International Records in 1978.(Soul Tracks)

Hi-Tension - British Hustle.
Hi Tension were a North London based boy band, seen as pioneers of Brit funk and started as Hott Waxx in the early 1970s.[1] They included Phil Fearon (Galaxy and Kandidate) and Lloyd Phillips (Kandidate) brother of guitarist Paul, before becoming Hi Tension and riding high on the Brit funk wave with the tracks, “Hi Tension” and “British Hustle”.
The group was composed of brothers Paul Mclean (lead guitar), Patrick Mclean (saxophone); brothers David Joseph (keyboards / lead vocals) and Ken Joseph (bass guitar); uncle and nephew Jeffrey Guishard (percussion / lead vocals) Leroy Williams (congas) Paul Phillips (rhythm guitar / vocals) David Reid (drums) and Courtney Pine (saxophone on tour).[1]
The band split in the early 1980s with David Joseph pursuing a solo career. In 1984 Ken Joseph, Leroy Williams and Jeffrey Guishard reformed the band (with old members David Joseph and Paul Phillips playing on the recording sessions) and released “Rat Race” in 1984, and “You Make Me Happy” (originally recorded as “Happy” by Surface) in 1985.[1] Neither cover version scored in the UK Singles Chart.

This one’s always been a favourite of mine and still sounds fresh and new!
